The Tech Behind the Power: Columbia Payloader's Electric Drive System
The Columbia Payloader has three models – Standard Duty, Heavy Duty and Super Duty – each rated for different duty cycles with differing payload and towing capacities. Our Standard Duty Payloader is rated for cargo up to 2,400 lbs, and tow loads up to 6,000 lbs. While our Heavy Duty Payloader is rated for cargo up to 3,200 lbs and tows up to 10,000 lbs, and our Super Duty is rated for cargo up to 4,000 lbs and tows up to 18,000 lbs.
What enables us to offer such a wide range of performance options in the same form factor? Power train configurations designed by our engineers to optimize utility, reliability, and return on investment. The Standard and Heavy Duty Payloaders feature DC Drive systems, with motors and direct drive units scaled for their respective duty cycles. While the Super Duty Payloader boasts an AC Drive system, with an upgraded controller, and chain drive unit. All Payloaders are powered by 48 volt battery systems, with a range of battery chemistries and technologies available.
A Day in the Life of a Columbia Payloader
Columbia Payloaders can be found in a variety of applications all across the United States.
On college campuses, Columbia Standard Duty Payloader supports maintenance crews by traversing narrow paths to bring tools, equipment, and technicians to any facility in need of attention. Landscaping teams can tow mowers, haul green waste, and move quickly, quietly, and efficiently across large and small campuses alike.
On the manufacturing floor, a Columbia Heavy Duty Payloader works alongside forklift trucks to move pallets from the loading dock to materials supply storage. Operators can fold up the second row of seats and carry personnel across the facility for a shift change, or for event-response needs.
On the tarmac, a Columbia Super Duty Payloader carries tools, equipment, and personnel to perform preventative maintenance and safety checks on planes. This vehicle has endless jobs at the regional airport where it can also be used to transport luggage and passengers for boarding, haul away refuse after passengers disembark, and even tow small planes into and out of the hangar.
