As it pushes forward with its "Sustainability through Hydrogen Fuel and Fuel Cell Technology" initiative, the department of defense has selected Columbia's Summit Utility Vehicle as a test platform for a compact Hydrogen Fuel Cell.

Columbia provided two SUV-LN's for the conversion project which took place at Warrner Robins AFB in Georgia. Various companies, agencies and, institutions were involved in the project including, the Center for Transportation and the Environment, Hydrogenics, The University of Texas at Austin's Center for Electromechanics, and the Gas Technology Institute.

The vehicle was recently on display at the 2010 Annual Fuel Cell Seminar, where a demonstration was given by NREL's Todd Ramsden entitled "Analysis of the Defense Logistic Agency's Fuel Cell Powered Material Handling Equipment Demonstration". 2,000 visitors are expected to attend the seminar where more than 60 presenters and exhibitors will share information with them.
