On Friday, February 7, 2020, the Columbia team was privileged with delivering a donation of STEM materials to both Ms. Speich’s and Ms. Osterhaus’s 1st grade classrooms at a local middle school. Columbia employees raise money every holiday season to help supplies materials to local classrooms for the next generation of ambitious mathematicians and engineers right here in Reedsburg, Wisconsin. Delivering these academic materials is always a highlight for the Columbia team.
Ms. Osterhaus shared that these materials help her students “to problem solve, be critical thinkers, compromise with peers, be a leader, think outside the box, and more!” Columbia hopes these materials will lay a foundation for these students’ STEM journey.
Among the materials donated were various math, brain, and logic games, games that teach basic circuitry, and a programmable robot that will help students understand the foundations of coding. These material were selected by Ms. Osterhaus and Ms. Speich in order to meet students right where they are in their STEM knowledge, accelerating them to a deeper creation of STEM knowledge. The added dynamic of competition encourages students to view these concepts as fun, not work.
Columbia is so excited to see what’s in store for these students in Reedsburg, and hopes to continue to inspire the next generation of mathematicians, scientists, and engineers.
